Once upon a time in Mysuru
Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, who presided over the royal seat between 1884 and 1940, spearheaded the rise of the Mysore silk sarees. Under his rule, the Government Silk Filature and Weaving Factory was set up in 1912 to bolster silk saree production in the region. Thus, the Mysore silk sarees were born.
Passing down the traditional weaving techniques
With a noble aim to elevate the status of Mysuru silk, the Maharaja, during his rule, has benevolently promoted traditional weaving techniques and uplifted the weaver community. The passionate artisans have ever since passed down the meticulous craft to their younger generation, safeguarding the authenticity of pure Mysore silk sarees.
Geographical Indication tag
In order to uphold its authenticity and reputation, the Geographical Indication (GI) tag has been certified to this magnificent weave, strengthening its claim as one of the most sought-after sarees. This certification recognises the saree’s unique attributes, rich heritage, and the devoted craftsmanship.
Mysore silk crepe sarees
The Mysore silk crepe sarees, akin to the primary variant, adorns a regal look with its wrinkled surface and intricate zari work. Though the unique texture makes it stand out from other weaves, the elaborate borders and distinctive patterns add up to the authentic value of the Mysore silk crepe sarees. The soft texture of crepe, the lightweight, rich colours, and zari embellishments make these drapes worthy of wedding and special wear.
